Nick Olson – Fitness Director, Master Trainer

BioMy education and years spent in sports led me to a 10 year career in Personal Training which further blossomed into 3 years of CrossFit coaching. I’ve been a multi-sport athlete throughout my life; I’ve had an intense passion for weightlifting since high school and an even stronger desire to help people become stronger and more fit in their personal journeys. My goal is to help people find the confidence and knowledge needed to live a long and  strong healthy lifestyle. I find great joy in helping people overcome their self-limiting beliefs and achieve feats they may never thought possible!  I believe that any person is equipped with the knowledge of fitness, nutrition, and recovery is equipped with the tools to lead a healthy and successful life.

I’ve spent years with my head in the books and being in the trenches of many modals so I could bring the best possible methods to any person  I may meet in hopes of helping anyone achieve the goals they may have. Train intelligently and train hard.

Hector Alcayde - Head Coach

Bio – Hector, also known as “Hecky,” has been with CrossFit Explosion and Boom Fitness as our head coach since 2013. He graduated from Pacific University with a BS in Exercise Science, obtained his CSCS, and graduated from East West College of the Healing Arts to obtain his license in massage therapy shortly after.

Hector competed as a tennis player all throughout his high school and college years. After tennis, he competed in powerlifting as a 148lb lifter for several years before he found CrossFit. He says he built a good strength foundation and a strong sense of mechanical awareness in powerlifting, but always had an itch to jump into a CrossFit WOD when watching his fellow CrossFitters in the middle of a heavy lift. He fell in love with CrossFit because he says “it makes me feel athletic again being able to perform all the different movements other than lifting heavy barbells (even though that’s fun too). I love that it’s not easy and that it promotes hard work and consistency. The community is strong here and everyone puts forth their best effort to become fitter and healthier each day.”

Currently, Hector does the programming for CrossFit Explosion, along with his fellow coaching team, giving the best program to fit the needs of the community they serve. Hector puts a strong emphasis on proper and consistent mechanics before the addition of intensity because staying injury free is the key to progress.

Training Philosophy: Stay positive. Stay fighting. Stay brave. Stay ambitious. Stay focused. Stay strong.”

I turned 40 this year, so I thought it would be cool to set a goal to lose 40 pounds by June 1st. The big changes for me this year have been: 1) using the RP diet template to completely overhaul my nutrition habits; 2) striving to be consistent, and 3) building in time most days to focus on my mental approach, not just in relation to CrossFit, but life in general  — just trying bring more intention, positivity, and gratitude to the way I live my life. The last thing — I know that any progress I make is a direct result of the amazing coaching and the support of the people in the CrossFit Explosion community. I’ve learned so much from all of you, and I feel very blessed to be able to just be a part of it all”

When I first started training at Boom Fitness I started working with a personal trainer to help me learn how to actually work out… All the staff and other members are amazing. I’ve lost over 60 pounds*, and can honestly say that it wouldn’t have happened without the personal training and Crossfit classes at this gym!

A little over five years ago my doctor told me I was fat (248 lbs), that my blood sugar was way too high (8.6 A1C) and that I was screamingly fast heading toward a life I would not like. Now, at 70, I weigh 206 lbs and my A1C is in the mid 6’s. It was because of the attention, the highest quality training, designed for where you are physically, and in a clean, friendly, helpful and uncrowded environment.  At my next physical, six months later, my doctor said, “What’s this?! No one does what I tell them to. Nice job.” Well, the nice job was Boom. I don’t look like Jason Statham, but I’m not embarrassed about taking my shirt off at the pool! At seventy, I feel forty.  Boom did change my life.
